The trial of Ryan Wesley Roth, the man who was arrested last year for allegedly planning to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida during the presidential election campaign, began today, Tuesday, September 9.
The jury was selected to start the trial, as the defendant presented himself before the potential jury yesterday, Monday.
This trial comes nearly a year after Roth denied committing any crime, which is unusual as he chooses to represent himself in court.
ABC News reported that the defendant's apology was due to the possibility of remaining with the jury members in the courtroom for several weeks, not because of the charges against him.
Roth is about fifty years old and was shot at by the Secret Service on September 15, 2024, when he was spotted armed hiding among the bushes at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Although he did not fire any shots, he fled before being arrested and charged.
It is noted that this is the second alleged assassination attempt against Trump in two months, highlighting the ongoing security threats surrounding prominent political figures in the United States.
