In an incident that shook the Tunisian public, security authorities arrested a man who claimed to be a "spiritual healer" on the "TikTok" platform, after being involved in luring girls and sexually assaulting them under the guise of legitimate spiritual healing. The accused used an account under the name "Spiritual Sage" to attract girls suffering from psychological crises, exploiting their vulnerability and sensitive situations. One of the victims, a university student, contacted him after her father's death, and he gradually approached her, then invited her to direct meetings that ended in her rape, after deceiving her into believing he would marry her, only for her to later discover she was pregnant. Not stopping there, he secretly filmed her and used these videos to blackmail and threaten her, the same method he used with other girls who fell victim to his schemes. Investigations revealed a significant resemblance between this case and a previous case in 2022, where another person was arrested for exploiting hundreds of women under the pretext of spiritual healing on "Facebook." Despite the recurrence of such incidents, Tunisia still lacks a law criminalizing witchcraft practices, raising questions about the need to amend legislation to protect victims and deter such crimes.
