The Counter-Terrorism Agency in Yemen announced the foiling of an attempt to smuggle a shipment of drones and weapon spare parts that were headed to the Houthi group.
The authorities managed to seize the suspicious containers aboard a commercial ship that arrived at Aden Port from China, after it changed its course from Hodeidah Port, which is under Houthi control, following recent Israeli shelling of the port.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the operation was carried out in coordination with the Attorney General and the Free Zone Security at the port, where drones, radio devices, advanced electronic control units, and various military equipment were found inside the containers.
The inspection operation took place on August 2nd, with the participation of teams from customs and Free Zone police, and under the supervision of the specialized prosecution, which initiated an urgent investigation into the case.
The seized materials were secured in preparation for completing the legal procedures.
The statement indicated that the foiling of the operation came after the security agencies received precise intelligence information about the contents of the shipment and its destination, which prompted the execution of the inspection according to emergency legal procedures and with the participation of all relevant parties.
The statement quoted a security source as saying that initial investigations revealed that Hodeidah Port is being used as a corridor for smuggling weapons to the Houthis, as part of an organized network that is responsible for bringing advanced equipment into Yemeni territory.
The source praised the coordination between the security agencies at Aden Port and the customs and inspection teams that contributed to seizing the shipment.
The source also confirmed that investigations are ongoing, noting that a detailed report will be submitted to the UN Security Council sanctions committee, including information about the source of the shipment and the parties involved, primarily the Houthi group.
