Amid escalating tensions in the skies of Ukraine, the US Embassy in Kyiv issued a sharp security alert, warning of a "large and imminent" Russian aerial attack that could occur at any moment in the coming days, as Moscow and Kyiv exchange accusations despite talk of a temporary ceasefire. The US Embassy posted a statement on its website confirming receipt of intelligence indicating the possibility of a major aerial attack, urging American citizens to prepare and seek shelter immediately in case of alarm sirens or announcement of an air alert. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces announced that Russia intensified its attacks over the past twenty-four hours, using missiles and aerial bombs in strikes targeting multiple locations along the frontlines, raising doubts about Moscow's commitment to the recently declared ceasefire. Russia had announced a three-day ceasefire starting Thursday, coinciding with the country's celebrations of its victory in World War II, but Kyiv accused Moscow of not abiding by the truce, with the latter responding with similar accusations. In a notable political development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he had a phone call with US President Donald Trump, informing him of Kyiv's readiness to enter into a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire, indicating that such a step would be a genuine sign of willingness for peace if met with similar seriousness by Russia. It is worth noting that the Kremlin had rejected a proposal for an unconditional ceasefire presented by Kyiv and Washington in March, but Moscow later suggested a short truce in April during Easter, which was not fully respected by both sides. The current ceasefire, which Moscow says aims to test Kyiv's intentions, so far demonstrates the fragility of the ceasefire, as warnings of potential escalation persist, which could reignite battles in wide areas of Ukrainian territory.
