The head of the Internal Security in Sweida province, Colonel Ahmed Aldalati, categorically denied his participation in any negotiations or direct negotiation sessions with the Israeli side, in response to recent rumors.
In statements to the official Syrian television last night, Aldalati confirmed that these allegations are baseless, lacking accuracy and credibility, emphasizing that Damascus's position is firm and clear, and that the Syrian leadership continues to take all necessary measures to protect the Syrian people and defend the sovereignty and unity of the territories using all legitimate means.
This denial came after five informed sources revealed that Israel and Syria had entered into direct contacts, holding face-to-face meetings in border areas in recent weeks to contain tension and prevent conflict. The Syrian side led these meetings by Colonel Aldalati, as reported by Reuters.
According to three sources, several rounds of meetings were held in the border region and areas under Israeli control in an attempt to discuss urgent security issues.
Earlier this week, Aldalati was tasked with overseeing the security file in the southern Sweida province, inhabited by the Druze minority.
It is worth mentioning that since last December, Israel has carried out dozens of airstrikes, naval and ground attacks targeting Syrian military bases after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Israel has also expanded its operations inside the demilitarized zone and the occupied Golan Heights, as well as in southern Syria.
However, the intensity of these attacks decreased after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in Riyadh two weeks ago, where Trump called for normalization with Israel, a matter that Syrian authorities later denied, confirming that it was not discussed during the meeting.
