The United States Announces Interception and Inspection of an Oil Tanker Subject to Sanctions Linked to Iran

The U.S. Department of Defense announced via the "X" platform that it executed an interception and inspection operation on the oil tanker "Tiffany" that is subject to sanctions and is suspected of being linked to Iran, in an area under U.S. military command, with no incidents occurring during the operation.

The department confirmed that the operation is part of Washington's commitment to confronting illicit networks and intercepting ships that provide material support to Iran, noting that international waters "are not a safe haven for sanctioned vessels."

Details of the U.S. Interception Operation on the Tanker "Tiffany"

The U.S. Department of Defense clarified that forces conducted a maritime interception and inspection operation on the oil tanker "Tiffany," which is a non-flagged vessel and subject to sanctions, within the scope of responsibility of the U.S. military command in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

It added that the operation was carried out without any incidents, reaffirming its ongoing efforts to "dismantle illicit networks" linked to the transport of sanctioned oil.

Intelligence Information on the Route of the Oil Tanker "Tiffany"

The intelligence company "Vanguard Tech" reported that the tanker "Tiffany" flies the flag of Botswana and was intercepted in the Indian Ocean.

Tracking data showed that the last signal from the ship was on Tuesday between Sri Lanka and the Strait of Malacca, according to the ship-tracking website "Marine Traffic."

Oil Shipments and Route Through the Strait of Hormuz

Data from the maritime monitoring company "Kepler" indicates that the tanker carried approximately two million barrels of crude oil from Iran's Khark Island on April 5.

According to the same data, the ship crossed the Strait of Hormuz on April 9 and was headed towards Singapore according to automatic identification system signals.

Activity of the Tanker Within the So-Called Iranian Shadow Fleet

Reports indicate that the tanker "Tiffany" has carried out several oil transfer operations in recent years between ships off the coasts of Singapore and Malaysia, an area considered a major hub for trade linked to China via Iran's secret fleet of sanctioned oil tankers.

The ship has also made repeated trips between this area and both Iran and China, within networks suspected of evading international sanctions.

The U.S. Position on Sanctions and the Blockade on Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States would not lift the blockade imposed on Iranian ports unless an "agreement" is reached with Iran.

This comes amid ongoing U.S. pressure on oil transport networks linked to Tehran.

The maritime data company "Lloyd's List Intelligence" indicated that at least 26 vessels from what is known as the "Iranian Shadow Fleet" have managed to bypass the U.S. blockade since it was imposed last week, indicating ongoing attempts to circumvent sanctions.
