The UAE and Cyprus Launch a Joint Initiative to Send Urgent Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus announced the launch of a joint humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering urgent aid to save the lives of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, amid the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the region.
A joint statement issued by the foreign ministries of both countries on Friday stated that the initiative is based on purely humanitarian principles and aims to ensure the safe, sustainable, and unobstructed flow of aid through various available routes, including the maritime corridor "Amalthia" extending from Cyprus to Gaza, which began operations in March 2024.
The statement clarified that these efforts are being conducted in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the "World Central Kitchen" (WCK), based on Security Council Resolution 2720 regarding the facilitation and monitoring of humanitarian aid.
It noted that the UAE and Cyprus have initiated sending 1,200 tons of aid via the Ashdod port towards Gaza, supported by the "Amalthia Fund," and this aid primarily includes food supplies, especially directed towards children, in addition to wheat flour to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable groups.
The statement confirmed that both sides will continue to work with international partners to ensure the widespread delivery of aid, in commitment to international humanitarian law and established humanitarian values.
