The engineering units of the 66th division of the Syrian army discovered today, Saturday, a minefield containing more than 5,000 mines from the remnants of the previous regime, in the vicinity of the Deir ez-Zor military airport, according to local sources today, Saturday.
Efforts are underway to dismantle the mines and secure the area, amid warnings about the danger these remnants pose to civilian lives, especially in areas close to vital facilities.
This operation is considered one of the largest mine detection operations in the region in recent years, and it comes as part of the army's efforts to clear the land of the effects of war and secure the surroundings of military and civilian facilities.
