The Lebanese Parliament decided today, Monday, to postpone the legislative elections scheduled for next May for two years, in light of the ongoing war between Hezbollah and Israel.
The Parliament's presidency announced that the General Assembly of the House of Representatives voted with a majority of 76 votes in favor of extending the term, against 41 opposing members and 4 abstaining from voting.
Military Context
The session was held in downtown Beirut with the presence of several Hezbollah members, while Israeli aircraft were conducting airstrikes on the southern Beirut suburbs, targeting the locations of the Al-Qard Al-Hassan Foundation affiliated with the party, amidst escalating military tensions in the country.
