Nablus city in the northern West Bank witnessed violent clashes today, Wednesday, between dozens of Palestinian youths and Israeli army forces, resulting in 25 people being injured due to tear gas inhalation, amidst a continuous escalation of incursions in West Bank cities.
According to an official statement issued by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, its teams dealt with 25 field injuries, including one case that was transferred to the hospital for treatment, while the rest of the cases were treated on-site.
Eyewitnesses reported that clashes erupted around the old town of Nablus, where the youths threw stones at the Israeli forces, who responded by firing live and metal bullets and tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters.
According to local sources, Israeli army forces stormed Nablus since the early hours of dawn, imposing a tight siege on the old town, amidst heavy military reinforcements sent to the city.
Witnesses reported that the army forced Palestinian families to evacuate their homes by force, and some were taken as positions, coinciding with extensive search campaigns of residents' homes in several neighborhoods.
In simultaneous field developments, Israeli army forces carried out a series of incursions early today targeting several other Palestinian cities, most notably Hebron and Bethlehem to the south, and Qalqilya to the north, resulting in the arrest of several citizens.
This escalation comes in the context of an ongoing military campaign in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, alongside the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian statistics indicate the killing of more than 1,016 Palestinians in the West Bank since the escalation began, in addition to about 7,000 injuries, and the arrest of more than 18,000 citizens so far.
In a related context, Israeli authorities announced the confiscation of $450,000 during a raid carried out in the city of Ramallah yesterday, without disclosing additional details about the nature of the amount or the party that possessed it.
