The Governorate of Sweida issued an official statement today, Thursday, clarifying the details of the governor's visit on July 23, 2025, to a number of displaced individuals from the governorate, including women whose images appeared in a widely circulated video that sparked significant controversy on social media platforms.
The governorate confirmed that the meeting included the presentation of two humanitarian options for the affected families: either returning to the city of Sweida or relocating to the Jaramana area, noting that the women involved chose to head to Jaramana of their own free will, without any pressure or direction.
The governorate explained that the humanitarian coordination was done through Ms. Muzna Al-Atrash, who initiated connecting the family with Sheikh Talal Kanaan Abu Salman, where they were received in a manner that reflects the values of solidarity and social support that the people of Sweida uphold in facing difficult circumstances.
In this context, the governorate emphasized its firm rejection of what it described as the exploitation of people's dignity and suffering for media purposes, considering this an ethical transgression unworthy of those who claim professionalism or concern for the truth, calling for respect for human privacy and not turning tragedies into tools for controversy or defamation.
