Emergency Security Council Discusses Escalation of Crisis Between Iran and Israel

Last night, Saturday, an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council was held to discuss the repercussions of the joint military operation between the United States and Israel against Iran, which has sharply escalated military tensions in the region.
* Iran Threatens and Accuses of Crimes
The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, accused the United States and Israel of "committing a war crime," emphasizing that the strikes targeted civilian infrastructure and resulted in the deaths of more than 100 schoolgirls.
Iravani said:
"The number of innocent civilians is still increasing. This is not just an act of aggression; it is a war crime and a crime against humanity."
He noted that American bases and assets in the region would be legitimate targets if military operations continued.
* Israel Affirms Its Right to Respond
In contrast, Israel's representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, confirmed that the operation was necessary to put an end to the Iranian nuclear and missile program.
He added:
"The Iranian regime destabilizes and spreads violence, leaving no reasonable option, and Israel has put an end to the threats in cooperation with the United States."
* Bahrain Warns and Condemns
Bahrain also expressed a very clear position, with its representative Jamal Al-Ruwaihi emphasizing that the security of Gulf countries is indivisible, considering the targeting of Bahraini territory as "an act of aggression that we will not tolerate."
He called on the United Nations Security Council to condemn the Iranian attacks on countries in the region.
* Background of Developments
These moves came after Israel and the United States carried out an intensive military operation targeting the capital Tehran and other areas in Iran on Saturday morning.
Iran responded to the attacks by striking American bases in Gulf countries, including Bahrain.
The Gulf Cooperation Council is expected to hold an emergency session today, Sunday, to discuss the serious developments in the region, amid fears of escalating military conflict.
