In the context of technical support and advice, the Syrian Minister of Finance, Mr. Mohammad Yusr Berniah, received a technical mission from the International Monetary Fund led by Ron van Rooden, Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department and head of the IMF mission to Syria, in a visit that marks the first of its kind in about 18 years, since the last official presence of the IMF in the country. This step comes as part of the Syrian government's efforts to enhance international cooperation and open up new prospects for economic reform. The mission consists of eight specialized experts from five main departments within the IMF, covering areas such as public finance, statistics, monetary affairs and capital markets, in addition to legal affairs, as well as the Middle East department overseeing the Syrian file. The mission will last for five days, during which it will provide technical support and advice to the Syrian government in various economic and financial fields. The mission's areas of work include public finance, tax and customs reform, public debt management, national statistical system development, monetary and banking reform, banking supervision, financial stability, as well as financial integrity policies and anti-money laundering, which are essential pillars for a strong and stable financial system. This cooperation is part of ongoing efforts by Syria to enhance its financial stability and improve the performance of its economic and financial institutions, contributing to creating a more transparent and efficient economic environment. This step reflects a new vision for economic development and comprehensive reform in the country, aiming to address current economic challenges and support the journey of sustainable development and construction.
