Foreign Minister of Syria, Asaad al-Shibani, stated that he has just returned from an official visit to the Qatari capital, Doha. This visit is part of Syria's new positive openness policy, focusing on discussing bilateral relations between the two countries. This was announced during a press conference at Damascus International Airport upon his return from a working visit to Qatar leading an official delegation. Al-Shibani emphasized the discussions on enhancing and developing cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, such as energy, economy, trade, finance, tourism, communications, information technology, higher education, and developmental aspects. He also mentioned plans to strengthen Qatari financial institutions' participation in boosting the Syrian banking sector, expressing gratitude for the salary grant provided by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Furthermore, agreements were made to explore investment opportunities in Syria, prepare three Syrian hospitals, build a modern hospital, support the healthcare sector, and collaborate on developing the pharmaceutical industry in Syria. Additionally, agreements were reached on continuing Qatari gas supplies through Jordan, enhancing cooperation in oil and gas, reactivating the Syrian-Qatari Holding Company as an investment platform, and receiving technical support from Qatar for Syrian government's economic and financial reforms. Qatari banks will start offering correspondent services for Syrian banks in Riyals to connect Damascus to the global system.
