The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its gratitude today, Wednesday, to the Government of National Unity in Libya for its decision to exempt Syrian citizens residing in Libya from paying the fees and fines associated with regularizing their residency status, until December 31, 2025.

The ministry confirmed that this step reflects the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries, and is an important humanitarian gesture to alleviate the burdens on the large Syrian community in Libya, which has faced legal and living challenges for years due to the absence of official consular representation.

The Libyan decision includes exempting Syrians from accumulated fines that were estimated at about 500 Libyan dinars for each month of delay, which opens the door for comprehensive legal regularization and facilitates the procedures for voluntary return for those who wish.
