Syrian actress Sulaf Fawakherji sarcastically denied the validity of a circulated marriage certificate on social media platforms, falsely claiming her marriage to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Fawakherji commented on the matter in a post on her personal Facebook page, saying, "Don't blame us, we did it out of boredom, we didn't plan it."
She added in her post, "By God, it's laughable! I'm usually serious, but I couldn't control myself. Can you be noble just once? Can you discuss ideas without attacking honor? Only those with psychological issues would do that!" She continued with a sharp expression, "Can you get your minds out of the bedroom? Are you tired and exhausted? Finish up... you still need a good loaf of bread!"
She also pointed out contradictions in the alleged document, stating, "Last time you got the religion wrong, although we didn't have this classification in Syria (I don't know if it exists now). People laughed at you, but you learned from your mistakes! And today you made three mistakes at once! Although the story is simple; you could have easily checked a regular and simple birth certificate!"
She did not hesitate to refute other details, saying, "My official birthdate is 1.8.1977, three days after my actual birth, which is the Syrian and Lebanese Army Day. My father's name, may he rest in peace, is Mohammed, not Mohammed Salim! I live in the Salibeh Project, Block 65, and I'm proud of it. All the love to our people in the Senatori neighborhood."
Fawakherji affirmed her belonging to Latakia and all of Syria, mocking the document's claims, "If you want to amend, know that the contract is void this way! And more importantly, where is the divorce certificate?! If you fear God!"
She concluded with a prayer, "I have not divorced and will not divorce, God willing. May God protect me, my husband, my family, and all people. Shame on you! Focus on the country and the people, they deserve more attention than me!"
It is worth mentioning that the Syrian Artists Syndicate had previously removed Sulaf Fawakherji's name from its records due to "deviating from the goals of the syndicate," according to a statement accusing her of "denying Assad's crimes and ignoring the suffering of the Syrian people."
