Today, Wednesday, the High Legal Committee in Sweida, formed by a decision from the spiritual leader of the Druze, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, issued a strongly worded statement in which it considered that what the governorate has witnessed of "systematic crimes and violations, alongside decades of marginalization, deprivation, and exclusion," constitutes a legal and moral basis for demanding the right to self-determination.
The statement mentioned that the people of Sweida have the full right to choose their future freely and independently, whether through a model of self-administration or even separation, as it is considered "the last available option to ensure their security, dignity, and existence," according to the committee's expression.
