In a significant diplomatic move reflecting the revival of Syrian-Russian relations, the Syrian embassy in Moscow announced that the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmad al-Shara, will lead his country's delegation to the first Russian-Arab summit, scheduled to be held in the Russian capital Moscow on October 15.
The official statement issued by the embassy stated:
"As announced during the joint press conference between Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani in Damascus, Syria will officially participate in the Russian-Arab summit, and its delegation will be led by the President himself."
This anticipated summit is the first of its kind at this level between Russia and Arab countries, where representatives from member states of the Arab League from the Middle East and North Africa, along with several East African countries that are members of the League, are expected to participate.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had previously confirmed that an official invitation had been extended to the new Syrian leadership to participate in the summit, indicating Russia's openness to Damascus within what Moscow described as "multilateral regional dialogue."
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that most Arab countries have shown wide interest in participating in this pivotal political event, which aims to enhance the strategic partnership between Russia and the Arab world in the fields of politics, economy, and energy.
The summit, which will be held in mid-October, comes at a precise timing for the region and is considered a critical juncture for redefining Arab-Russian cooperation amid rapidly changing regional and international dynamics.
