Anton Nymkin, a member of the Information Policy Committee in the Russian Duma, clarified that the restrictions imposed by Moscow on the "Telegram" platform aim to ensure the platform's compliance with Russian law and are not intended to permanently ban the application.

Condition for Full Operations to Resume

Nymkin stated: "If the platform decides to operate in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation and ensures an appropriate level of protection for citizens, there will be no fundamental obstacles to resuming full operations." He added that the responsibility now lies with "Telegram" to take the necessary steps for compliance, noting that "the ball is now in the platform's court."

Roskomnadzor's Actions

The Russian regulatory authority "Roskomnadzor" had previously confirmed the imposition of restrictions on the messaging service of the "Telegram" platform, as part of Moscow's efforts to regulate the operation of social media services in accordance with local laws.
