The Spanish club Barcelona announced today, Monday, that it has accepted the resignation of the chairman Joan Laporta, in a move that comes in preparation for the upcoming presidential elections within the Catalan club.
The club clarified that the resignation request was submitted during the regular meeting of the board of directors, which also saw the official announcement of the call for elections in the near future.

Date of Elections and Transfer of New Management

The presidential elections of FC Barcelona are scheduled to take place on March 15, 2026, with the elected president officially taking office starting from July of the same year, after the transitional period of the current board ends.

Laporta's Resignation According to Club Regulations

Laporta's resignation came based on the club's internal regulations, which require the president of Barcelona to resign if he wishes to run for another term, with the possibility of continuing his duties until the election process is completed, which Laporta did by announcing his candidacy again for the presidency of the club.

Temporary Management During the Transitional Phase

Barcelona confirmed that the first vice president, Rafa Yusti, will temporarily assume the presidency to oversee the club's affairs until July 1, 2026, when power is officially transferred to the elected management.
