Referral of the Prime Minister of Italy and other officials to the International Criminal Court for complicity in genocide in Gaza

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, announced that she and two other ministers have been notified to appear before the International Criminal Court for complicity in genocide, in connection with the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip.
Meloni stated in an interview with the state television network RAI that Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani have also been referred, noting that Roberto Cingolani, head of the Leonardo defense group, may face a similar trial.
This is the first of its kind for Italian officials at this level related to the alleged crimes in Gaza, amid increasing European calls for an investigation into the violations since the start of the Israeli attack nearly two years ago.
Protests recently erupted outside the Leonardo company in Turin, northwest Italy, in solidarity with the Palestinians and in rejection of what was considered the complicity of the Italian defense group in the Israeli bombing of Gaza.
It is worth mentioning that the International Criminal Court had previously issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant in November 2024, on charges of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations investigation committee also confirmed in a report released last September that genocide occurred in Gaza at the hands of Israeli forces.
