The 'Wevs of Freedom Swiss' association accused the Israeli authorities of committing serious violations against Swiss activists who were part of the 'Global Freedom Flotilla' heading to Gaza, after they were intercepted and detained.
The association clarified that what occurred was not just an ordinary detention, but involved deprivation of sleep, food, and water, as well as deliberate medical neglect, alongside verbal insults and psychological pressure. Some detainees, according to the statement, spoke of being shackled for long hours without justification, being beaten and slapped, and even being placed in cages.
The association also pointed out that the Israeli authorities refrained from providing essential medications to several detainees, such as insulin for diabetics and medications for asthma and blood pressure, considering these practices to amount to cruel and degrading treatment under international law.
These accusations come at a time when international human rights criticisms are increasing regarding Israel's treatment of participants in solidarity flotillas aimed at breaking the blockade imposed on Gaza.
