In a new escalation despite international efforts to achieve peace, Israeli forces carried out extensive military incursions this morning, Wednesday September 17, 2025, in the towns of Jabata al-Khashab and Ofania in the northern Quneitra countryside in southern Syria, accompanied by vehicles loaded with soldiers, according to the official Syrian television.
The campaign included search operations and deployment on the rooftops of houses, in addition to low-flying drones.
Israeli forces also launched a raid and search campaign on several homes in the villages of Khan Arnabah, Jabata al-Khashab, and Ofania, resulting in the arrest of four young men, continuing the arrests of Syrians that began in December 2024 in the area.
This incursion comes amid intense American efforts to bring Damascus and Tel Aviv closer together and to conclude a security agreement that limits escalation, an agreement that has previously faced several violations, as Israel has bombed Syrian military targets and incursed into the demilitarized zone, heightening concerns about the stability of southern Syria.
The area remains on the brink of increasing tension, with Israel continuing to strengthen its presence about 20 kilometers from the capital, Damascus, putting the future of the ceasefire agreements in jeopardy.
