Paris: Telegram App Founder to be Re-questioned

French news agency "AFP" reported that Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram app, will be re-questioned in a Paris court today, Monday.
The Russian-born businessman is charged with several crimes, including managing an online platform for illegal transactions, and faces a prison sentence of up to ten years.
The Paris Prosecutor's Office indicated that Durov is accused in France of six misdemeanors and felonies, including complicity in managing an online platform for the purpose of carrying out illegal transactions by an organized group.
Durov was detained at Paris Le Bourget Airport on August 24, 2024, and the Paris Prosecutor's Office later stated that Durov was detained for questioning in a case opened on July 8 against an unnamed person suspected of committing 12 crimes.
Furthermore, French authorities are investigating Durov's involvement in concealing data about illegal online activities, including distributing child pornography and drug trafficking, as well as suspected unwillingness to cooperate with authorities.
On August 28, 2024, the Paris Prosecutor's Office announced the release of Durov on bail of 5 million euros, placing him under judicial supervision and prohibiting him from leaving France.
The United Arab Emirates requested from France "to provide all consular services to Durov urgently", as he also holds Emirati citizenship.
