Opening of the Al-Bukamal border crossing between Syria and Iraq to enhance trade and humanitarian exchange.

The General Authority for Land and Maritime Border Crossings officially opened the Al-Bukamal border crossing with Iraq this morning, Saturday, June 14th, to receive travelers and trucks, as part of efforts to enhance trade and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The Authority emphasized in an official statement that all staff and service facilities at the crossing are ready to operate, urging travelers and truck drivers to fully comply with procedures and instructions to ensure smooth movement and safe passage.
Mazen Aloush, Director of Public Relations at the Border Crossings Authority, explained that this opening is part of a comprehensive plan to reactivate border crossings, enhance their role in boosting trade exchange, and facilitate the movement of individuals and goods. He added: "The crossing staff started receiving travelers early in the morning and providing necessary facilitations for them."
Aloush also mentioned that commercial convoys loaded with goods have started crossing through the crossing, reflecting its actual readiness to support economic activity between the two countries, and opening up new prospects for export and import that enhance integration with regional markets.
The Al-Bukamal crossing is considered one of the most important land crossings between Syria and Iraq, connecting the Syrian Deir ez-Zor Governorate with the Iraqi Anbar Governorate. The crossing has witnessed repeated closures during the years of war in Syria due to security tensions and the control of armed groups over border areas, keeping it out of service for long periods.
