Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed today, Sunday, his complete openness to discuss the fate of Hezbollah's weapons, stressing at the same time the necessity for these discussions to take place within a "calm discourse".
Berri said in a speech:
"We warn against the spread of hate speech that the media has begun to promote widely".
He added: "We are open to discussion about Hezbollah's weapons, but it must be within a framework of calm and balanced discourse".
The Lebanese Parliament Speaker also firmly rejected any threats that undermine Lebanese constitutionalism or the constitution, describing such actions as "a violation of the constitution and a leap over the constitutional statement".
In another context, Berri addressed the security situation in Lebanon, where he indicated that Lebanon has adhered to the conditions of the ceasefire agreement, but the Israeli side has not complied with any of its terms; on the contrary, it has intensified its aggression and occupied Lebanese lands.
He said: "Israel continues to refuse to withdraw from the occupied Lebanese territories, and we refuse to place the burden of responsibility on the Lebanese army, the stronghold".
In conclusion, Berri called for calm and not to reopen past wounds or dance on destruction, warning that there are parties betting on prolonging the war.
