Muscat Reveals Atmosphere of Geneva Talks: American-Iranian Openness to 'Creative Solutions' for the Nuclear File

This announcement coincided with the start of the third round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran in Geneva, as part of the mediation efforts undertaken by Muscat.
Meetings with Washington's Envoys
The Omani News Agency reported that al-Busaidi met with both Steve Biegun, the U.S. President's envoy, and Jared Kushner, where they reviewed "Iranian side's views and proposals," along with responses and inquiries from the U.S. negotiating team regarding the core elements of the nuclear program, and the technical and regulatory aspects associated with it.
Unprecedented Atmosphere of Openness
The agency quoted al-Busaidi confirming that efforts are ongoing "intensely and constructively," noting that there is openness from both sides to new and creative ideas and solutions, and creating supportive conditions to achieve tangible progress.
He added that the goal is to reach a fair agreement, supported by sustainable guarantees, addressing various dimensions of this sensitive file.
Omani Mediation Continues
These moves come amid ongoing Omani efforts to bridge the views between Washington and Tehran, especially in light of the political and technical complexities surrounding the nuclear file, and its wide regional and international implications.
The current round in Geneva is a new test of the parties' ability to transform the atmosphere of openness into practical understandings that pave the way for a viable long-term agreement.
