Libyan Presidential Council President Mohammed Al-Menfi confirmed in a speech delivered before the United Nations General Assembly yesterday evening that Libya rejects all forms of foreign intervention and insists on its full sovereignty, warning of the dangers that lead to the continuation of the crisis and delay solutions.
Al-Menfi called on the United Nations to enhance its role in supporting Libya to overcome the crisis and move towards stability and democracy, emphasizing the failure of all temporary solutions and narrow understandings that have occurred in the past period.
He also called for a reconsideration of the models and mechanisms proposed by the United Nations, which have proven to be ineffective and negatively impacted the chances of reaching a genuine settlement.
The Presidential Council President proposed launching a comprehensive national dialogue without exclusion, with the participation of all political actors, aimed at unifying sovereign institutions and ending the transitional phases that Libya has suffered from for months due to the stalled dialogue between the main parties.
In recent years, the United Nations has attempted to push the country towards presidential and legislative elections; however, disagreements over electoral laws and the constitutional basis have prevented their occurrence, leaving Libya in a continuous crisis without a permanent constitution or unified institutions.
This statement coincides with the movements of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, to regain control of the Mitiga military complex, in an attempt to strengthen his government's influence amid ongoing political conflicts in the country.
The Libyan crisis, facing external interventions and deep internal disputes, still needs a comprehensive solution that ensures stability and puts the country on the path to democracy and development.
