The Argentine star Lionel Messi, captain of Inter Miami, continues his strong competition for the title of Best Player in Major League Soccer (MLS) for the 2025 season.
Messi is considered one of the top candidates for the "Landon Donovan" award for Best Player of the Season, which he won last year for his remarkable performance in the 2024 season.
The American League has announced the final list of nominees for the award, which includes alongside Messi:
Dennis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC)
Anders Dreyer (San Diego FC)
Evander (Cincinnati FC)
Sam Surridge (Nashville SC)
Messi leads the scoring chart in Major League Soccer this season with 29 goals, and he also tops the assists ranking with 19 assists, in a performance that American newspapers described as “extraordinary by all standards.”
Messi is 38 years old, and he announced yesterday, Thursday, the extension of his contract with Inter Miami for an additional three years, to continue with the team until 2028, in a move that confirms his commitment to continue his career in American fields.
