The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait announced today, Saturday, that it has thwarted a scheme described as targeting the collection and transfer of funds illegally under the guise of religious titles, in preparation for financing illegal entities.
Arrest of Suspects and Financial Amounts
The ministry stated that 24 individuals involved in the case have been arrested, including one person whose citizenship was previously revoked, in addition to monitoring 8 other individuals who are fugitives from justice, while amounts of money suspected to be the result of illegal operations were found in the possession of those arrested.
Use of Commercial Entities for Concealment
Investigations revealed that the suspects used commercial entities and professional fronts to transfer money through advanced technical methods aimed at concealing the sources and pathways of funding, in an attempt to evade security and financial oversight.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigations
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior confirmed that it has taken the necessary legal actions against those involved, with ongoing investigations to pursue the remaining fugitives and uncover all extensions of the network.
Emphasis on Combating Illegal Financing
This step comes as part of Kuwait's efforts to combat money laundering and the financing of illegal activities, and to enhance oversight of financial transfers and suspicious economic activities.
