The Kenyan government has announced that it is considering a request to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 football tournament, scheduled to be held in partnership with Tanzania and Uganda, due to fears of potential violence linked to the general elections coinciding with the tournament's date.
Nairobi clarified that security considerations are a priority, given past experiences that have seen tensions during election periods.
In this context, the British newspaper “The Guardian” reported that the tournament may be postponed to 2028, noting that the three host countries still need more time to complete the readiness of the infrastructure and sports facilities necessary to host the continental event.
