Today, Sunday, in Italy, the remains of Saint Francis of Assisi are being displayed to the public for the first time in decades, for a full month, in an extraordinary step to commemorate the eighth centenary of his death.
The display is taking place in the Umbria region, where Saint Francis is considered one of the most prominent religious figures in Catholic history and the founder of the Franciscan order. He died on October 3, 1226.
This occasion is part of extensive religious and spiritual activities attracting pilgrims and visitors from around the world to commemorate the anniversary of his passing eight centuries ago.
