Is there a gasoline crisis in Iraq? The government clarifies

The Iraqi government has settled the escalating debate regarding the existence of a gasoline crisis, confirming that the markets are experiencing complete stability in supplies, and that the produced and stored quantities are sufficient to meet local demand.
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced today, Sunday, February 8, 2026, that gasoline is available in all provinces at reasonable prices, emphasizing that the circulating news about a crisis in the markets is incorrect.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Oil, Abdul Sahib Al-Hussanawi, stated that the daily production rate of gasoline is 30 million liters, while the available stock reaches 135 million liters, which are sufficient quantities to ensure continuous supply without interruption.
Al-Hussanawi explained, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency "INA", that the coming days will witness greater stability in production, especially after the FCC unit at the Basra refinery goes into service, which will contribute to increasing the production of high-octane gasoline to reach 4 million liters per day.
He confirmed that these figures represent officially approved data for the current month of February, firmly denying the existence of any bottlenecks or crisis in the supply of gasoline.
Regarding the increase in demand, Al-Hussanawi noted that the daily consumption rate has slightly risen to 33.5 million liters, attributing this to the holiday period and increased vehicle movement and citizen outings, confirming that this rise does not put pressure on the supply system.
The Ministry of Oil emphasized at the end of its statements that gasoline supply is completely stable, and that the ministry monitors production and distribution movements daily to ensure the continued availability of fuel in Iraqi markets without any obstacles.
