The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced today, Sunday, the opening of an official investigation into the case of diplomatic advisor Zainab Akla Abdul Al-Saadi, following the controversy sparked by the incident at the 'Fairmont' hotel in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and the subsequent leaks of official documents that stirred public opinion.
The ministry expressed its regret over the circulation of internal letters issued by one of its missions abroad, confirming that it has begun taking legal measures to investigate the circumstances of the leak and hold accountable any party found negligent.
The case dates back to the advisor's appearance in a television interview holding a towel, in a controversial response to accusations directed at her for stealing items from the hotel room, including towels and personal belongings, according to what was stated in circulated official documents.
The incident sparked a wave of comments on social media platforms, amid calls for a transparent investigation and accountability for those responsible, at a time when calls are increasing to reconsider the mechanisms for selecting and evaluating diplomatic staff.
