Iran Raises Minimum Wage by 60% Despite War and Protests.. Will This Step Calm Street Anger?

Local media reported that the decision came after government approval, amid increasing economic pressures and rising inflation rates in recent times.
Wages Rise from 103 to 166 Million Rials
The "Tasnim" news agency quoted the Iranian Minister of Labor as saying that the monthly minimum wage will rise from 103 million rials to 166 million rials starting from the new Iranian year, which begins in a few days according to the solar Hijri calendar used in the country.
This adjustment is part of an annual mechanism adopted by the government to review wages in line with inflation rates.
The New Minimum Wage Value Equals About $112
According to estimates of the exchange rate in the black market, the new minimum wage in Iran is equivalent to about $112 per month, reflecting the continued decline in the value of the local currency amid international sanctions and economic pressures.
Inflation and Sanctions Pressure the Iranian Economy
The Iranian economy has witnessed high inflation rates in recent months, due to ongoing international sanctions, in addition to military tensions that preceded the war with the United States and Israel.
This has led to a significant increase in the prices of basic goods and a decline in the purchasing power of citizens.
Living Protests Turned into Political Slogans
Iran witnessed protests in late December that began over living conditions, before expanding to include political slogans against the leadership of the Islamic Republic.
Reports indicate that the crackdown faced by the authorities during these protests resulted in thousands of deaths, increasing tensions between the government and the street.
