Iran Denies Seeking to Acquire Nuclear Weapons Amid Threats to Reimpose Sanctions

Bezhakian's statements came days before the deadline set by Britain, France, and Germany to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran, after accusing it of failing to comply with the 2015 agreement aimed at preventing it from developing a military nuclear program.
The European powers offered to postpone sanctions for up to six months, provided that Iran allows UN inspectors to return, shows readiness to address concerns related to its enriched uranium stockpile, and engages in direct negotiations with the United States.
The Iranian president accused the European troika of taking its steps "at the behest of the United States," considering that these political pressures do not serve the dialogue process and do not reflect genuine intentions to achieve stability.
