"WhatsApp" launches AI-supported translation feature

Meta Platforms officially unveiled the addition of a translation feature within the "WhatsApp" application, in a move aimed at breaking the language barrier and facilitating communication among more than 3 billion users of the app worldwide.
This feature will enable users to translate instant messages directly within individual and group chats, and even in broadcast channels. To do this, the user simply needs to press and hold the message they wish to translate and then select the "Translate" option.
In the initial launch details, the company clarified that the service will start being available in 6 languages for Android users, while iPhone users will receive broader initial support covering 19 languages, with plans to add more languages in the future.
To reassure users, Meta emphasized that the privacy of conversations is fully protected, confirming in its official blog that: "Translations are designed to protect the privacy of conversations, and therefore are done on the device itself without WhatsApp being able to access them."
The feature also offers an advanced option for Android users called "automatic translation," which, once activated in a conversation, will automatically translate all new messages without the need to request translation for each message individually.
