Official Launch of Instants App by Instagram

Instagram announced yesterday, Friday, April 24, 2026, the launch of its new app “Instants”, which aims to enhance rapid social communication and compete with Snapchat through the feature of temporary photo sharing.

The app is part of Instagram's expansion in offering standalone applications instead of relying solely on the main app.

Concept of Instants App and the Principle of Photos Disappearing After 24 Hours

The “Instants” app is based on a simple idea that enables users to send photos that automatically disappear 24 hours after being viewed, with no possibility of viewing them again after they disappear.

This concept directly resembles the “stories” experience on Snapchat, focusing on speed and spontaneity in sharing daily moments.

Usage Mechanism and Logging in via Instagram Account

Users can log into the “Instants” app using their existing Instagram account directly, without the need to create a new account.

Once the app is opened, users are directed straight to the camera to quickly capture and share photos, with a design that focuses on simplicity and reducing steps before posting.

Privacy and Content Disappearance with No Retrieval Options

Instagram clarified that photos sent via “Instants” cannot be viewed again after they disappear, as they automatically vanish after 24 hours.

However, any content exchanged between the app and within the main Instagram app can be viewed, creating integration between the two platforms.

Background on the Development of Instants and the Evolution of the Shots Feature within Instagram

According to a report from 9to5Google, the “Instants” app was originally an internal feature known as “Shots” located within direct messages on Instagram, but it did not achieve widespread popularity.

This lack of usage prompted the company to separate it into a standalone app.

The report also noted that the smart summary known as “Cocoon AI Summary” observed that the app represents a new expansion in replicating the Snapchat experience within the Instagram environment.

Instagram's Statements on the Purpose of the Instants App

Instagram stated in an official statement:

"We present to you Instants, an app from Instagram. Share photos that automatically disappear with your friends. Connect with your loved ones through the small moments of life".

The company added: "Go directly to the camera to quickly share moments with your friends, without edits — share instantly".

Availability of Instants App on Android and iOS and Expansion Plans

The “Instants” app is now available for users of both Android and iOS, with availability varying by geographical region.

The app aims to provide a faster and simpler experience for sharing instant content among friends.

New Meta Trends and Subscription Experience within Instagram

In line with developments related to the platform, reports also indicated that Meta Platforms is testing a new subscription service called “Instagram Plus”, which offers exclusive features within Instagram, as part of a broader trend to expand revenue sources and enhance user experience.
