The Rise of Ukrainian Asylum Applications in the European Union by 29% During the First Half of 2025

The European Union Agency for Asylum announced a significant increase in the number of asylum applications submitted by Ukrainian citizens in EU countries during the first half of 2025, with the number of applications reaching 15.7 thousand compared to 12.1 thousand in the same period of 2024, and 7.1 thousand in 2023, marking an increase of 29% compared to the first half of last year.
The agency clarified that nearly half of the Ukrainian asylum applications (49%) came from France, while Poland recorded 32% of these applications, with the share of the remaining EU countries not exceeding 5% combined.
In a related context, Venezuela topped the list of countries with the most asylum applications in the EU during the first half of 2025, after 48.7 thousand Venezuelan citizens submitted asylum requests.
