President Ahmed Al-Shar'a chaired the first meeting of the Syrian Arab Republic government on Monday, delivering an opening speech outlining the government's priorities for the upcoming period. Al-Shar'a emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation in formulating relief plans that prioritize Syrian citizens, particularly in revitalizing the economy and meeting their daily needs. The President stressed the new government's responsibility to reform the significant damage left by the previous regime, especially in economic and financial systems, by creating a safe and attractive investment environment. Reconstruction is a top priority, with strategic plans needed to organize cities and towns, linking urban development with cultural and civilizational aspects. The meeting also discussed the importance of national unity and the need for a unified national media discourse to elevate national unity above any divisions, emphasizing that Syria belongs to all its citizens. Ministers presented preliminary visions in their respective fields, addressing issues affecting citizens' lives, such as economic sanctions and the necessity of international support for the new government to expedite recovery and reconstruction efforts. Discussions included rebuilding a professional national army, centralizing state control over weapons, and integrating agreements with "SDF" into state institutions. Economic policies were reviewed, stressing coordination between the economy, finance ministries, and the central bank to overcome past challenges and develop flexible policies to leverage available opportunities. Proposals were made regarding construction, housing, support for displaced persons, agricultural development, energy provision, infrastructure rehabilitation, transportation, civil society organization, national culture promotion, local administration improvement, and establishing a fair judicial system reflecting values of freedom and dignity. The meeting also addressed the need to revitalize official media, present future visions for the media sector, including establishing a media city. President Al-Shar'a concluded the meeting by emphasizing the urgency of restructuring ministries, finalizing appointments, digital transformation, future planning, and promptly implementing theoretical plans into practical action.
