High-level Government Meeting to Address and Develop the Land Transport Crisis in Syria

The Secretary-General of the Presidency, Maher al-Shar'a, held a coordination meeting that included the Ministers of Economy and Industry, Dr. Nidal al-Shaar, and the Minister of Transport, Engineer Ya'rab Badr, along with the Director of Land and Sea Ports, Brigadier General Qutaiba Badawi.
The meeting focused on discussing ways to address the technical and organizational challenges facing the land transport sector, which hinder the operation of a fleet that includes "more than 40,000 trucks, many of which are in poor condition."
In this context, the attendees emphasized the "necessity of finding urgent solutions to improve their working conditions as they are a source of livelihood for thousands of families."
During the meeting, a package of proposals aimed at developing the sector was discussed, with the most prominent solutions proposed including "launching an electronic platform to organize truck movements and ensure fair distribution of loads, in addition to regulating the entry of trucks from the crossings to facilitate unloading operations and ensure smooth workflow."
The discussion also touched on ways to "improve working conditions and wages for truck drivers, which enhances their living stability," in the context of striving for a qualitative leap in this vital sector.
