Iraq is witnessing a concerning rise in hemorrhagic fever cases, as the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that the number of deaths has risen to 42 out of 296 confirmed cases since the beginning of 2025.

This viral disease is considered one of the serious diseases that is often transmitted to humans through direct contact with the blood or secretions of infected animals, especially livestock.

The ministry emphasized the need to adopt strict preventive measures when dealing with livestock, such as wearing gloves and masks during slaughter, avoiding random slaughter outside of official slaughterhouses, in addition to intensifying awareness campaigns in rural areas that experience intensive agricultural and veterinary activity.

These warnings come amid fears of the disease spreading further, especially with rising temperatures and increased movement of livestock in markets, necessitating a concerted effort between health and veterinary authorities to limit its spread.
