At least 15 people were killed and 12 others injured in a drone attack targeting a crowded market in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, according to a relief worker and a local group on Wednesday.
The Associated Press reported from a relief worker in emergency response rooms, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation from the Rapid Support Forces, that the strike was attributed to Sudanese paramilitary forces and targeted the market on Monday evening. Meanwhile, resistance committees in El Fasher, a local network of residents and activists, indicated that the attack occurred on Tuesday morning. The agency was unable to independently verify the timing.
The resistance committees described the strike as a "brutal attack" that falls within a "never-ending series of daily massacres" aimed – according to them – at "subjugating the city and breaking the will of its residents".
This attack comes just days after a bombing targeted a mosque in the city, resulting in the deaths of more than 70 people, including children and doctors, according to reports from local and international organizations.
