Gold Prices Reach Highest Level in Two Weeks

Gold prices rose today, Wednesday, April 1, 2026, reaching their highest levels in nearly two weeks, supported by a weaker U.S. dollar and increasing hopes for a de-escalation of the war with Iran.

Spot gold recorded an increase of 0.4%, reaching $4685.79 per ounce by 02:28 GMT, after earlier touching its highest level since March 20 at $4723.21.

U.S. Gold Futures Exceed $4700 Again

U.S. gold futures continued their gains, rising by 0.8% to record $4713.40 per ounce for April delivery, surpassing the $4700 level again, indicating an improvement in investor appetite for the yellow metal.

Weaker Dollar Supports Global Gold Rise

A 2% decline in the U.S. dollar contributed to supporting gold prices, as the drop in the U.S. currency made dollar-denominated goods less expensive for holders of other currencies, boosting demand for the precious metal in global markets.

Trump's Statements Boost Hopes for War De-escalation with Iran

The gains in gold followed statements from U.S. President Donald Trump, who indicated that the war with Iran could end within two to three weeks, asserting that Tehran is not required to reach an agreement as a precondition for de-escalating the conflict, which positively impacted market sentiment.

Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Global Markets

Speculation about a reduction in the intensity of the conflict in the Middle East has led to a rebound in global stock and bond markets, with analysts, including Edward Meer from Marex, noting that the prospects of ending the war have revitalized U.S. markets and contributed to the rise in gold, even amid ongoing challenges such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Gold Losses in March After Tightening Monetary Policy

Despite the current rise, gold had recorded a sharp decline of over 11% during March, marking the largest monthly drop since 2008, due to increasing expectations of tightening U.S. monetary policy and a rising dollar as a safe haven since the outbreak of the war with Iran on February 28.

U.S. Interest Rate Expectations Pressure Markets

Market participants have almost ruled out any possibility of U.S. interest rate cuts this year, after expectations had indicated two cuts before the outbreak of the war, which directly affects gold movement that typically rises in a low-interest environment as it is a non-yielding asset.

Performance of Other Precious Metals Today

Prices of other precious metals varied, with silver falling by 0.8% to $74.53 per ounce, while platinum rose by 0.7% to $1963.22, and palladium increased by 0.6% to $1484.84 per ounce.
