From Negotiation to War? 3 Crucial Options for Trump After Iran Talks Fail

After more than 21 hours of intense negotiations in Islamabad, Washington announced the failure of talks with Tehran, in a development that brings tensions back to the forefront and forces Donald Trump's administration to face difficult and complex choices, all of which carry high political and economic costs.

3 “Unpalatable” Scenarios Outline the Path Ahead

According to estimates from American circles, the options before the White House are limited to three main paths:
Long and complex negotiations, a return to military confrontation, or slipping into a prolonged conflict in the Gulf region, particularly around the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Option One: Long Negotiations Hindered by Contradictory Conditions

Resuming negotiations represents a difficult choice for Washington, given Tehran's insistence on its right to maintain nuclear enrichment capabilities, against American insistence on completely ending the program.
Data indicates that any new negotiation path could extend for a long time and require concessions that do not align with the current rhetoric of the U.S. administration.

Option Two: Return to War and Threat to Global Energy Supplies

The option of military escalation remains on the table, especially with the fragility of the current ceasefire. However, resuming fighting could lead to widespread disruptions in energy markets, particularly if the Strait of Hormuz is affected, through which about one-fifth of global oil supplies pass.
This could also directly impact inflation rates and the global economy.

Option Three: A Long Conflict Draining Everyone in the Gulf

The most complex scenario involves entering into a prolonged low-intensity conflict centered around influence and control in the region, without a clear military resolution.
This path could keep tensions high for a long time and increase pressures on the U.S. economy and its allies, amid ongoing instability in energy markets.

Power Stakes Have Not Changed Tehran's Calculations

Despite previous military escalation, estimates indicate that Tehran has shown no willingness to back down; on the contrary, the pressures have reinforced its positions, reducing the chances of reaching a quick settlement.

Open Strategic Deadlock with All Possibilities

In light of the diplomatic impasse, Washington finds itself facing a complex equation: no easy options, and no quick exits. Between the calculations of politics, economics, and security, it seems that the next phase will remain open to multiple escalation scenarios.
