The General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria, led by Fawaz Al-Ahmad, participated in the International Labour Conference in Geneva, engaging in important activities through a series of meetings with international union leaders, aiming to enhance the Syrian labor movement's position on the international stage and support workers' issues. In this context, Al-Ahmad held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the African Trade Union Unity Organization, Arziki Mazhoud, discussing ways to enhance cooperation between the Syrian Federation and the African organization. Both emphasized the need to unify union efforts to support workers' issues in southern countries, and to coordinate positions within regional and international labor organizations. The meeting also addressed the role of both organizations in defending workers' rights, the importance of developing union training programs and exchanging experiences to empower unions to fulfill their roles amidst escalating social and economic challenges. Al-Ahmad also met with the Secretary-General of the All India Trade Union Congress, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Shri Hemti, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations between workers in Syria and India, and exploring opportunities for cooperation in various sectors. During the meeting, Al-Ahmad presented a detailed overview of the working class in Syria, highlighting the challenges of the post-war phase, the ongoing reconstruction phase, and the pivotal role played by Syrian workers in advancing the national economy and development. The Indian side expressed full readiness to provide technical support and expertise in vital areas, especially in the energy sector, given its strategic importance in Syria's reconstruction and development journey. Both sides agreed to organize exchange visits between the two countries to study the energy sector in Syria and develop potential Indian investments, aiming to enhance economic and union cooperation between the two countries and meet Syria's increasing energy needs.
