A massive fire broke out on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025, in the mountain forests overlooking the plain of Al-Ghab, specifically in the area of Al-Haidariyah village in the Shathah district in the northwestern countryside of Hama.
The fire started on Mount Mardash and quickly spread due to strong winds, dangerously approaching the civilians' homes in the village, forcing many residents to evacuate out of fear for their lives and the lives of their children.
Witnesses from the area confirmed that the fire ignited suddenly and rapidly spread in multiple directions, with a noticeable absence of firefighting teams in the initial moments.
They pointed out that the winds played a significant role in escalating the fire and spreading it towards the civilians' homes, prompting them to quickly evacuate their houses to avoid casualties.
Meanwhile, civil defense sources announced that firefighting teams have intervened and are currently working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to homes and neighboring areas, despite the significant challenges they face, including difficult terrain, fast winds, and the presence of explosive war remnants in the area, putting the firefighters at risk and complicating the extinguishing process.
At the same time, official authorities and local entities called on all citizens, firefighting teams, and civil defense to intensify efforts to contain the fire, emphasizing the need for urgent and organized intervention before the disaster turns into widespread destruction that becomes difficult to control.
