Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that the Israeli army assassinated Hamas leader in Gaza, Mohammed al-Sinwar. During a Knesset session, Netanyahu stated, "In 600 days, we have effectively changed the face of the Middle East, removed terrorists from our land, forcefully entered Gaza, eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists, and killed Mohammed al-Sinwar." Israeli media reported that Sinwar was targeted in an Israeli airstrike on May 13 in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza. Mohammed al-Sinwar is the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, who Israel accuses of planning the October 7, 2023 attack that ignited the war in Gaza. Yahya Sinwar was killed in southern Gaza in October 2024. Mohammed al-Sinwar was one of the prominent leaders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.
