European Defense Commissioner: The EU's ability to spend 2.5 trillion euros on armament is expected by 2030

The European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, predicted that the total amount the European Union could spend on weapons production and defense development could reach 2.5 trillion euros by 2030, during his intervention at a hearing in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Kubilius's statements came in the context of discussions on enhancing the EU's defense capabilities, including the development of drone systems and countermeasures, following reports of unidentified drones flying in European airspace.
Kubilius explained by saying: "By 2030, we will have the capacity to spend 2.5 trillion euros on various defense needs."
The European Commissioner also noted that this ambitious amount could include, in one funding scenario, reliance on part of the frozen assets of the Russian central bank, expressing hope for achieving this.
This statement comes at a time when EU countries still have differing positions regarding the European Commission's plan to confiscate frozen Russian assets. This disagreement became evident during the Copenhagen summit on October 1, where no consensus was reached on the proposed plan.
Belgium, in particular, has expressed its clear opposition to the proposal, voicing its reservations over potential reactions from the Russian side to such a bold move.
