Escalation of Violence in Sudan: Mass Displacement and Airstrikes in Kordofan and Darfur

As violence escalates in Sudan, the states of Kordofan and Darfur have witnessed a serious intensification of battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces;
Rapid Support Forces drones have been spotted around the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, where anti-aircraft fire and surface-to-air missiles were heard responding to them.
In contrast, the army has intensified its air operations, targeting Rapid Support Forces supply sites in West Kordofan, including their movements and systems.
The airstrikes were not limited to Kordofan, as army fighters launched attacks on the cities of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, and Zalingei in Central Darfur, targeting Rapid Support Forces headquarters and sites.
Recently, the use of drones has increased by both parties, with the Rapid Support Forces targeting civilian sites in Kordofan, while the army continued to monitor and target their supplies in Kordofan and Darfur.
These battles have caused the displacement of more than one hundred thousand people from Kordofan over the past three and a half months, according to United Nations reports, as the war approaches its third year.
The escalation of battles in Kordofan is linked to the Rapid Support Forces' control over the neighboring Darfur region at the end of October 2025, which has redrawn the lines of conflict in the area.
